Pickup Date Configuration Guide

Pickup Date Configuration Guide

Overview

The Pickup Date feature allows customers to select their preferred delivery date. This guide explains all configuration options and best practices.

Configuration Options

1. Enable/Disable Feature

Toggle the feature on or off. When disabled, customers won't see the date picker.

Use case: Temporarily disable during busy periods or maintenance.

2. Lead Time (Days)

What it is: Minimum number of days between order placement and delivery.

Options:

  • 0 = Same-day delivery allowed
  • 1 = Next-day delivery (orders today for tomorrow)
  • 2+ = Multiple days advance notice required

Examples:

  • Restaurant: 0 days (same-day delivery)
  • Furniture Store: 3 days (need time to prepare)
  • Bakery: 1 day (orders today for tomorrow)

3. Cutoff Time

What it is: Last time of day to order for next available delivery date.

Format: HH:MM (24-hour format)

How it works:

  • Orders placed before cutoff time: Can select next available date
  • Orders placed after cutoff time: Must select date after next available date

Examples:

  • Cutoff at 17:00 (5 PM):
  • Order at 4:00 PM → Can deliver tomorrow
  • Order at 6:00 PM → Earliest delivery is day after tomorrow

  • Cutoff at 12:00 (noon):
  • Order at 11:00 AM → Can deliver today (if lead time = 0)
  • Order at 1:00 PM → Earliest delivery is tomorrow

Best Practice: Set cutoff time based on your preparation and logistics schedule.

4. Max Future Days

What it is: How far in advance customers can place orders.

Default: 30 days

Examples:

  • Florist: 14 days (flowers are seasonal)
  • Catering: 60 days (events planned far ahead)
  • Grocery: 7 days (fresh products)

Tip: Longer periods work well for special events; shorter periods for perishable goods.

5. Allowed Days

What it is: Days of the week you offer delivery.

Options: Select any combination of:

  • Monday (1)
  • Tuesday (2)
  • Wednesday (3)
  • Thursday (4)
  • Friday (5)
  • Saturday (6)
  • Sunday (0)

Examples:

  • Business Days Only: Mon-Fri
  • Weekend Delivery: Sat-Sun
  • No Sunday: Mon-Sat
  • Specific Days: Wed, Fri, Sat only

Note: Dates that fall on unselected days will be disabled in the date picker.

6. Max Orders Per Day

What it is: Maximum number of orders you can fulfill per day.

Options:

  • 0 = Unlimited orders
  • 1+ = Specific limit

How it works:

  • When limit is reached, that date becomes unavailable
  • Counts all orders with that delivery date
  • Resets daily

Examples:

  • Small Restaurant: 30 orders/day
  • Delivery Service: 100 orders/day
  • Boutique Bakery: 20 orders/day

Best Practice: Set realistic limits based on your capacity. Better to under-promise and over-deliver!

7. Delivery Methods

What it is: Which Shopify delivery methods show the date picker.

Options:

  • ✅ Shipping
  • ✅ Local Delivery
  • ✅ Store Pickup

Use cases:

  • Shipping only: For nationwide delivery
  • Local Delivery + Store Pickup: For local business
  • All methods: Maximum flexibility

Note: Customers only see the date picker if their selected delivery method is checked.

8. Product Keywords (Pro Plan)

What it is: Show date picker only for products containing specific keywords.

Format: Comma-separated list

Examples:

  • cake, bakery, custom - Only for bakery items
  • fresh, perishable - Only for fresh products
  • made-to-order - Only for custom items

How it works:

  • Checks product title, type, and tags
  • Case-insensitive matching
  • If cart contains ANY matching product, date picker shows
